New YouTube App for Windows Phone Coming – Microsoft and Google Working Together

Microsoft and Google is working together to bring new YouTube app for Windows Phone.
On 7th May Microsoft released a new YouTube app in their app store, which violates YouTube API policy. They even didn’t bother to ask Google before publishing the app. Microsoft brought their customers ad free viewing experience with the option to download the video in their device and watch it offline. Google and Microsoft’s relation wasn’t that much good and after Google released their cloud based Office apps to take over Microsoft’s Office 365 it went much worse.

Google didn’t like it, on May 15th they sent a cease and desist (C&D) letter to Microsoft requesting either block the app or pull it off from the marketplace by May 22nd. YouTube is the largest video sharing site at present and it helps it’s media partners by monetizing their video. Content providers are losing money for the Windows Mobile YouTube app. There are plenty Windows phone users at the moment worldwide. If everyone start watching YouTube videos without the ads Google and it’s partners will lose a lot of money / revenue. Who wants to lose money? I guess no one.

Yesterday both of the companies released a statement that they are working together to make an YouTube app by following Google’s guideline. The new YouTube app for Windows phones expected to arrive in the app market soon by end of next month. This is a good sign we see that two giant companies are working together and hard to bring nice YouTube experience for the Windows Phone users.

In the new YouTube app for Windows phone, users will be able to watch ads and of-course no offline content, means no video download. But, seriously? There are plenty of apps to download videos from YouTube even in HD.
