GrameenPhone (GP), Banglalink, Robi & Airtel mobile networks in Bangladesh will soon be providing 3G service to their customers. Teletalk was already providing 3G services to its customers from 2012. Teletalk is the only mobile network operator in Bangladesh to get the 3G spectrum first as being state-owned company. This is a major step forward for Bangladesh. Mobile users now will get faster internet on their device. Video call, sharing will be much more easier. This will take Bangladesh to a whole new level and GrameenPhone said it is going to bring 3G service to its customers as soon as in November this year.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has called an auction to sell the 3G spectrum among the existing mobile operators and give them 3G license. BTRC got $525 million from this auction by selling 25 megahertz spectrum. GrameenPhone (GP) grabbed 1935MHz-1945MHz which is 2 blocks out of 8 and costed GP $210 million. Banglalink, Robi & Airtel each grabbed 5 MHz single block for $105 million each provider. Banglalink went for 1955MHz-1960MHz spectrum, Robi 1950MHz-1955MHz & Airtel 1945MHz-1950MHz.
Out of 40, BTRC sold only 25 megahertz spectrum. Teletalk was there to observe the auction. CityCell said they will continue their 2G services at the moment. They have no plan to upgrade but will wait. Other than GP
To use 3G properly you need to have an 3G enabled handset. Android is so far a best choice of OS if you are planning to buy a new phone. With 3G service coming very soon, the network providers are allowed to use 4G / LTE service without have to pay any extra to the government. With only one licence of 3G, operators can run 4G services.
If you haven’t got any 3G handset yet grab one as soon as you can. Join the 3G family. Hopefully GP & other operators will make the tariff easy for people that they can afford. All the networks were warned if they can’t deliver high speed 3G internet to all the divisions by next 9 months, they have to pay a huge amount of penalty. Government wants the expand of 3G service everywhere in Bangladesh.
