Google officially announced the next version of its mobile OS, Android KitKat. Android 4.4 the successor of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. It will be the latest and upcoming version of Android. We’ve been waiting to get a new update from Google, Android 5.0 codenamed Key Lime Pie (KLP). Instead of that Google has announced Android 4.4 with a name which is not a dessert. Google has changed their decision for the Android team’s favourite chocolate bar KitKat. The Google+ page of Android team tells us a bit why they have changed the name.
There is a new page that Google opened today on Android website. That is showing the most important changes of all the versions of Android with pictures. Beginning from Cupcake which is Android 1.5 up to KitKat, Android 4.4 (latest version). However, there is only announcement about the next update, no details. Google and Nestle kept Android KitKat secret for long time and they succeeded. No info leaked about this upcoming update. In Mountain View, Google Headquarter, they unveiled a giant Android KitKat. The Android 4.4 mascot is standing there with the previous versions. Android head at the Google headquarters Sundar Pichai has posted this following picture in his Google+ page.
Google has teamed up with Nestle to use the name. And, guess what? They didn’t pay any money to Nestle to use their favourite brand of choc bar. In accordance to that, Google & Nestle will be giving away Nexus devices to Android and KitKat chocolate bar lovers. Nestle is releasing KitKat bars with Android logo. Lucky consumers can win a brand new Android device.
All the Android version was getting the name of different desserts until Jelly Bean. In 2009, the company behind this amazing open source OS gave the version number and codename of upcoming Android versions. Well Google didn’t keep their promise, they were even giving reference of Key Lime Pie.
With every new update of Android, Google brings us some new update, gives us something new and amazing. What is coming with Android KitKat? No info about it from Google, we’ll have to wait and see.
