O2 users in the UK now can make calls & send SMS from various London Underground stations. O2 has recently joined the London Underground WiFi network provided by Virgin Media. For them who doesn’t know yet, there is no mobile network signal inside most of the tube stations in London. Basically most of them are under the ground. No network signal, thus no phone calls or SMS.
With the new app from O2 customers don’t have to have mobile network to make calls & send SMS. The app is called TU GO. The surprising thing is you can make calls from the underground station without using a mobile phone. The TU GO app works with WiFi and will work on different range of Smartphones, Tablets and Laptops.
If you been wondering, this is not the first WiFi calling app. There was one long time ago in the USA with cell phone provider T-Mobile network. Developers made WiFi calling easy with the Android devices. I couldn’t use it here with T-Mobile UK network.
The TU GO app to make calls & send SMS in the London Underground will not work for every O2 customer. To be specific it will work with only for Pay Monthly users and will use your montly inclusive minutes and texts. Pay-As-You-Go and Business customers can register your interest to use this app and its services. O2 is working to bring this new exclusive service to all O2 customers in the UK.
The O2 UK network recently announced 4G mobile internet for its users and coming very soon. The UK customers perhaps will get a chance to get 4G in reduced price after all the networks bring 4G services in the country.
The TU GO app is not supported in older devices. There are plenty devices running on the older version OS. Hopefully O2 will make the app available to all devices in the future.
More info on about the service and how to start using it coming up soon. Let us know how the app is working for you. If you like it or not by commenting here.
