First Aid (FA) is an essential thing in our daily life. You don’t need to be a doctor to learn First Aid, neither you are going to be a doctor after learning FA. From small cuts to big accident you can apply your FA skills in almost everywhere. The main point to First Aid is to help the injured person until a doctor arrives or until we take a casualty to a doctor or hospital.
British Red Cross has done a great job by publishing the FA Manual, which has a lot updated & essential information for First Aiders worldwide. There are a lot Red Cross / Red Crescent societies who are following British Red Cross’s First Aid manual. Now, the amazing thing they have done is beside the paperback manual they have created two apps for the FA enthusiasts. First Aid by British Red Cross & Baby and Child First Aid are the two apps ready for you to download from the Play Store. Available for almost on all Android devices.
The apps comes with nice step-by-step instructions, video and animated pictures to help you learn properly. Under every section there are questions and answers about the specific section. There are different related Q&A for each topic. At the bottom of that there is “Test yourself” button to test what you have learned.
In the Learn section there are 18 things you can learn to help a casualty. When you click on any of the topics there are descriptions and steps what you need to follow. These topics are covered in this app: Allergies / anaphylaxis, Asthma attack, Bleeding, Broken bone, Burns, Choking, Diabetic emergency, Distress, Head injury, Heart Attack, Hypothermia, Meningitis, Poisoning / harmful substances, Seizure / epilepsy, Strains and sprains, Stroke, Unconscious breathing & Unconscious not breathing.
Prepare section is another important part of this app. British Red Cross included plenty of tips and tricks from experts to help you prepare for any kind of situation at any place. This section covers: Chemical emergencies, Crowd incidents, Earthquake. Everyday emergencies, Fire, Flooding, Flu pandemic, Heatwave, Road traffic incidents, Terrorism, Top ten tips, Travel emergencies, Severe winter weather and Workplace emergencies.
When you open the First Aid app by British Red Cross, it asks you first if you are in an emergency. If so, you can click on the Emergency tab where you will find FA tips the important emergency situations. It is always advised for the UK residents to dial “999” for any kind of emergency.
The Test section is there to test your skills about First Aid by different topics what you have learnt. Very useful. We must make sure not to give wrong FA to a casualty. Wrong FA can put their life in danger. We shouldn’t put their life at risk. We are there to improve their situation and help them until a doctor see them.
If you want to be a First Aider, British Red Cross does First Aid Trainings. You can book yourself a training to improve your skills and help your friends, family & others. This app is not only for the people who are living in Britain but for every country in the world. Only the emergency number is for the UK. Once you download and install that app you don’t need to have internet to use the app and learn First Aid. This app works offline.
