Another quick Android update came from Google. This time it is Android 4.4.2 for Nexus 5, a small and 1 step incremental update. Significantly increases improvements of your camera. Just a week ago Google released Android 4.4.1 with camera update. Now, here’s another KitKat update featuring camera. The build number is KOT49H and comes with the latest Google Play Store app 5.5.12 installed. And, the update is marked only 54 MB of size.
My Nexus 5 is rooted and custom recovery installed. Got an update notification after coming out of the underground “Android 4.4.2 System Update”. This is a OTA update which is already downloaded in my Nexus 5’s Cache and ready to install. The only thing is you can’t install this update if you are rooted and / or using any custom ROM. The update is for stock Nexus 5 only. For rooted users, there are rooted Android 4.4.2 for Nexus 5 as well which you can flash through a custom recovery.
This update improves the Nexus 5 camera with faster shooting (less shutter lag, less motion blur); faster, more accurate focusing; better white balancing for truer colors; and more accurate exposures. The update also includes other bug fixes and performance improvements.
This is the official statement from Google about the update of Android 4.4.2 for Nexus 5. In my opinion, it does what it says. The update improved my Nexus 5’s camera performance and now its faster.
If your Nexus 5 is running stock Android it will receive the OTA update automatically. Depending on your location or Google’s list it might take some time to get the update. You can always check for system update manually from Settings > About > System updates. Honestly, it really doesn’t help. You will get it when Google wants you to get it. The update comes in batches.
If you are running a rooted Nexus 5, head over to XDA Developers forum. You can download Android 4.4.2 for your Nexus 5 from bigxie’s thread. This is a stock Android 4.4.2 ROM; Rooted, Odexed & Busybox installed. You need to install the update through a custom recovery, CWM or TWRP.
I’ve installed it mine and working nice. Didn’t have any problem while or after installing. I have updated the Radio and the Bootloader from the thread as well. If you want to stay updated with the latest updates, XDA has many things to offer you. Don’t forget to say thanks to the developer if you like his work.
