Google Glass is a computer that you can wear and HMD (Head-Mounted Display) to view and you can operate with your voice. This is not dream anymore. “Welcome to a world through Glass”. On the last Google I/O Google announced Google Glass and asked developers to sign up for the Google Glass project. Interested developers signed up to use the Augmented Reality (AR) device.
The Glass is featuring a 5 MP camera capable of recording 720p HD video and taking picture as you go. Battery life is very nice as well, it will run a day. That means 24 hours battery life, thats massive! You can use MyGlass Android app to connect using any android device running on 4.0.4 or up. Contains 16GB built in storage where about 12 GB storage is for user. Built in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth but without GPS. For positioning or navigating you have to pair with your phone.
The developers have started getting e-mails from Google few days ago stating that they already finished the product and on production line. Google have selected 2,000 developers to get it first. Not all together but by waves and everyone will be contacted by e-mail. They are being called Glass Explorer Edition.
Developers can decide to get Google Glass by post or exclusively visiting any of the 3 pick-up points in America. Inside those pick-up there are Google staff to assist describing the product and helping them to start with the product. The staffs are really nice over there and the developers were encouraged to bring someone with them.
The display is 25″ (inch) and user will see the screen from 8 ft distance. You can interact with Google Glass by voice activated command and the device will be answering to you by sending sound waves or displaying results. You can get all the map information or object information in front of your eye without obstructing your view..
You can view map and navigate, Google+ to hangout, translation and so on using internet. The best thing about Google Glass is that all the apps have to be free, no paid apps. And you can say goodbye to ads. Ads will be blocked in real life from digital advertising displays on the road.
The Glass is indeed a spectacular device to have and wear and use. It is not ready for public yet. We might see it coming public at Q4 2013. Price in UK is about £975. Will see when its coming here (a must have device).
There might be a question that I’m already a glass user with prescribed lenses, will I be able to use it? The answer is YES. Google is already working on that, to include prescribed glasses on Google Glass.
