Google updated the Gmail app for Android on October 1st. At least the day I got it updated / pushed on my Nexus. This version is Gmail 5.6 (836823) and this is the latest version of Gmail for Android devices. Google is now integrating card style UI for all their apps and services. Actually, they look nice, neat & clean. And, this is their latest integration and we get a clean interface.
The displaying block of messages in the updated Gmail app is cool. The update brings some nice features and bug fixes. The main changes and improvements of Gmail app for Android version 4.6 are:
- Improved sync and outbox behavior
- Contact photos turn into checkboxes when selected
- Fresh new look
In the previous update of Gmail app for Android it showed us two different category based inbox. Social and Promotions, which filters the mails and put a label for you to keep your inbox organized. Before that they introduced sender image displaying. Multiple account setup. Still these features are present.
When you touch on a sender image, the image will be flipped to tick mark and will be selected. You can select as many as you want and see all of them are marked tick. Then, you can select your action. Another breaking news is ads are coming soon. The code is inside there, Google haven’t started it yet.
How to Remove the Sender Image from Gmail App?
If you don’t want to see the sender images on your Gmail inbox, it’s easy to remove the image. Go to your Gmail settings from the Gmail app for Android. Select General Settings and remove the tick from Sender image. You can configure your app with some other settings from this General Settings menu. If you want to get a confirmation message before deleteing, archiving or sending any message, scroll down and tick those boxes.
Gmail 4.6 is a free app, you can get it from Google Play Store if you haven’t got the latest Gmail app on your Android yet. Alternatively here’s a mirror of the Gmail 4.6 app (com.google.android.gm.apk)I pulled out from my Galaxy Nexus. This version will work only devices running Android 4.0 ICS or later versions. If you are running a lower version of Android and this app is not working don’t be surprised. Let us know if you like the latest Gmail app for Android over here or on our Facebook page.
