Finally Google has started rolling out the new version of maps for Android devices. Google Maps 7.0.0 is now ready for download. This updated Maps comes with a redesigned UI and new feature and update. You now can use the new desktop version of Google Maps on your Android. Not all the devices got this update yet. Until I updated my one to the newest version my Google Maps was showing version 6.14.4 (#6140400) on my Galaxy Nexus.
Google Maps 7.0.0 (#700002513) is the latest version of Google Maps for Android. You can either wait for the update to get officially or get it from here and use it. This new Maps app has separate smartphone and tablet UI, useful among different variety of devices. Even the new Google Maps for iPhone users are on the way. Google is working on it and will release in App store in due time.

Google has put the following things in highlights for this new Maps app. Explore, Enhanced Navigation, new Tablet Design, Reviews, Zagat and Offers. You can shake your device to send feedback to Google.
The internet giant is providing a lot features to the users this time. Another bad news is Google is shutting down its Latitude and Check-in service from Google Maps on August 9. They already removed these services from this version. Also, no more offline maps. But you can type “Okay Maps” and the location will be cached in your device for you to view later. So, Offline maps from Google Maps 7.0.0 are not gone completely. +1 Easter Egg in Google Maps.

There are different version of the apk for different version of Android. The new Google Maps will work on Android devices running Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean version. Get the app for your version and install it. Installing is very easy as you can click on the app from the notification bar it will prompt you to install it. No special or extra permissions needed.
