After the last update of Google Maps, Google updated it again. The version which is now Google Maps 7.0.1 (#700012011) was pushed as an update in my tablet today. The updated Google Maps brings a new option in the menu about the Latitude feature. Google is permanently shutting down its Latitude service from 9th August. Google+ app will be used for this feature in the future from now on. If you are missing Google’s latitude service you should quickly get the Google+ app from the market.
The Google Maps 7.0.1 apk file looks little be smaller than the previous update 7.0.0. The new apk is only 5.92 MB. Still no map update for my Galaxy Nexus as I uninstalled it and re-installed it from the market but didn’t get the latest update. Still using the old version.
Now Google explains about the missing Latitude feature. They put a button “Where’s Latitude?” If you click on that button it will bring you to Google Maps for Mobile support page. You can get your answers regarding Latitude from this page.
What’s New?
– New design for Android phones and tablets
– Enhanced navigation including live traffic updates, incident reports and dynamic rerouting
– Explore: A new way to browse and discover popular local places to eat, drink, shop, play and sleep
