Today Microsoft bought Nokia’s smartphone section for $7.2 billion including its patent portfolio. Nokia, once a leading mobile phone manufacturer started their business as a paper manufacturer in 1865 in Finland. They have a long history on mobile communication, device and support. In 1985 they created world’s first portable phone and on 1987 they launched world’s first hand-held phone.
Microsoft, the leading software and OS company known widely in the world for Windows OS created by Bill Gates and Paul Allen on 1975. Microsoft was founded 110 years after Nokia. Microsoft has a long history on computing as well. Now Microsoft bought Nokia to create Windows phones on their own and to compete with Android & iOS.
In the world of smartphone competition now there is a new competitor, Microsoft. Nokia was producing some nice range of Windows phones recently. I guess Nokia Lumia is now a known name to everyone. Few years ago Nokia announced that they are starting their partnership with Microsoft to launch Windows phones for the consumers. They stopped doing their most anticipated Symbian OS phones which was customer favourite as well. Nokia’s most recent innovation is Lumia 1020 with a 41MP camera, the first smartphone to have that huge and nice camera. Though Nokia previously released Nokia 808 PureView 41MP camera phone but wasn’t that much popular like Lumia 1020.
Lots of consumers of smartphone and tech critiques were saying, Nokia would do better with Android phones. Now that Microsoft bought Nokia there will be new development and competition in smartphone world. Google bought Motorola to produce their own smartphone, Apple has got their own & now Microsoft corporation got their own.
Existing employees of Nokia will continue to work under the new management as usual. As it happens with every other company if the management changes some employees leave the company. We might see some might leave after the company ownership changes.
