How to Root Galaxy S7 Edge and S7 with CF Auto Root

11th April 2016 by TLHD

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (SM-G935F) and Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F) are amazing phones with specs, design and features. Root is now available only for the Exynos variant on both devices, courtesy of Chainfire, senior moderator and senior recognized developer on XDA Developers Forum. This article I’m going to tell you how to root Galaxy S7 Edge and S7 using CF Auto Root. At the end of this tutorial you will have a rooted phone in your hand. However, please note that you will lose warranty, things can go wrong and you may end up with a bricked device. Proceed with your own responsibility.

Root Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S7

Instructions to Root Galaxy S7 Edge and S7

Follow the instructions below to root your device on an Windows PC or laptop. Download the correct zip for your device and rest of the steps are similar.

Selecting the CF Auto Root file for Galaxy S7 Edge in Odin 3.10.6

  1. Make sure you have the drivers installed correctly for your device and have enough charge
  2. Download CF-Auto-Root-hero2lte-hero2ltexx-smg935f.zip to root Galaxy S7 Edge or CF-Auto-Root-herolte-heroltexx-smg930f.zip to root Galaxy S7 from Chainfire’s repo
  3. Extract the zip files inside an empty folder, all files required for rooting are available here
  4. Run Odin3-v3.10.6.exe
  5. Click on AP and select CF-Auto-Root-hero2lte-hero2ltexx-smg935f.tar.md5 for S7 Edge or CF-Auto-Root-herolte-heroltexx-smg930f.tar.md5 for S7 (do not change any other option)
  6. Enable OEM Unlock from Developer Settings (How to Enable Developer Options)
  7. Connect your phone to your laptop or PC using the USB cable, you should see ID:COM box in Odin will turn Green with corresponding port number
  8. When ready, click Start button and wait for the flashing to finish

It may take some time to finish everything and you may not see any output. For exact info here is what Chainfire posted in XDA Forum:

Note that CFAR’s display code isn’t yet compatible with the S7, as such, there is no output on screen. This means that after flashing with ODIN, the device will only show you the S7 logo, and it seems like nothing happens. Just leave the device alone for 5 minutes. It’ll reboot a few times, then boot into Android, but now you have root.

If it still doesn’t do anything after 5 minutes, something has gone wrong, and you should probably reflash your stock boot.img and recovery.img.

Install Android 5.0.2 Lollipop (CM-12.0) on Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2

28th July 2015 by TLHD

Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 (SM-T900) released with Android 4.4.2 KitKat and Samsung didn’t update the firmware yet to a newer Android version. You need root and custom recovery to flash any custom ROM. In this post I’m going to explain easy step to flash an unofficial CM 12.0 ROM on your Tab Pro 12.2 through custom recovery. I’m using this about a month and happy with it. It is fast and stable while giving you better battery performance and using less system storage.

How to Root Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 SM-T900 Running Android 4.4.2

27th June 2015 by TLHD

Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 is an amazing big screen tablet from Samsung. Along with a large 2560×1600 resolution display it is stuffed with 3 GB RAM, 8-core processor, 32 GB internal storage along with a microSD slot. The tablet is fast and responsive but comes with a lot of bloat-ware. You can not remove them or uninstall them if your tablet is not rooted. I am using this tablet from last year with stock Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) that was shipped with the tab. I felt the device is not using all the resources and not delivering enough performance as it is capable of. I even wrote a small post on How-to make Samsung Galaxy Tab PRO 12.2 Fast. On top of that Samsung hasn’t updated the firmware to Lollipop yet and Android M preview version is knocking at the door. Using a custom or AOSP ROM provides better performance in most of the case and lets you upgrade your firmware to the latest version. Hence, I decided to root my Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 and use a custom Android 5.0.2 (Lollipop) ROM. I did it successfully without any problem, I’m sharing my experience on how I did it. [Read more…]
